Which three words best describe you?

Geeky, Musical, Caffeinated

What prompted the decision to make the move from London to Swansea?

A big part of the decision to move was to be back with my girlfriend who lives in Swansea. I also felt that it was time for a change, and James Good was the first company that sprang to mind.

You were fairly determined in your efforts to join the James Good team. What was the attraction?

It is surprisingly difficult to find a team of people who love what they do, are enthusiastic, promote creativity and have a great time doing it.

Over the last couple of years I have been keeping an eye on what the James Good team have been doing and have been really impressed, not only with the work that they are producing, but also the whole experience for the client and the James Good team surrounding each project. After a couple of years of the occasional chat with James over Twitter/Skype, we finally met up for coffee and Hobnobs and I realised that this was something I wanted to be a part of.

Any advice for other young creatives trying to earn a place with their perfect agency?

There are two things that I see cropping up more and more with people trying to get into the industry.

Firstly, work hard and get your name out there. Build some products that you would love to use and release them into the wild for other people to use too. Not only will this make you learn fast, but if you can do something great then people will start to talk about you. I have built loads of these projects ranging from web based to-do lists to coffee counters (counts how many cups of coffee I drink in a day).

Secondly is education. I have seen a lot of people come out of university with some amazing qualifications like Computer Science, Animatronics, Physics etc. who want to get into the industry. This is great, but what an agency wants is somebody who is enthusiastic, willing to learn and somebody who can drive the company forward. Skill sets are a lot easier to change than a personality. So my advice is to go out, get the qualifications, stay inspired and make sure you have something awesome to bring to the team.

How will James Good’s clients benefit from the specific skills that you bring to the team?

I am known to be a bit of a tinkerer as well a perfectionist. This actually works as quite a good combination. I always want to make things better, faster and easier to use, but I don’t settle for anything that isn't perfect.

You’ve spent the last couple of years developing Facebook applications. What can businesses gain from a social media-based campaign?

Facebook is an awesome platform, the biggest problem right now is that businesses do not understand the value of it. There are tons of reasons to get your brand on Facebook and engaging users, but here is one example based around a fictional coffee shop that speaks for itself.

You are running a competition on your Facebook fan page to win free coffee for a year.

During day one of the campaign, 500 people enter your competition who share with their friends that they have entered.
The average number of friends each Facebook user has is around 150.

So, by having 500 people enter the competition each with 150 friends, your brand has been exposed to at least 75,000 people on the first day. If a friend comments on your activity, this shows it to their 150 friends, and so it continues.

These sorts of numbers are amazing for smaller businesses; all for the small cost of setting up a Facebook competition tab on your fan page.

What achievement are you most proud of?

It's a little unrelated to web development, but playing the guitar parts on the TV themes for Gladiators and Dancing on Ice.

Who would be your dream client?

My dream client would be somebody who has an amazing idea, is really motivated and is looking for a team to make it happen. Having clients who are inspired to do something amazing makes you want to innovate and push harder towards the end goal, while having a lot of fun doing it.
