This beautiful animation was created by Alexander Chen, an expert in interactive music and web technology, who spends most of his days at the Google Creative Lab.

The video is an animation of a 1972 New York subway schedule, which charts the movements of each train in real time and translates it into music. It is a brilliant example of HTML5 in action, but the masterful use of new web technology wasn’t the inspiration behind the project. The inspiration came from a desire to turn everyday things into music, and to show how the web can be used as a canvas - a medium for art.

Turn the sound up on your computer, sit back, and enjoy.
