
Bubble Squeak Naming, Brand Identity & Website Design
Bubble Squeak is a social enterprise that has been set up to enable some of the UK’s unemployed people to earn their own living cleaning cars with the power and confidence of a national brand.
They needed a name, logo and design style that car cleaners could be proud of and one that would inspire these individuals and give them the confidence to make the opportunity work for themselves.
We developed various names and finally settled on Bubble Squeak. We felt it was memorable, a bit of fun, a name people would like, but also a name that helped to convey the simplicity of the service. The service they are offering is no-frills wash and wax - quite simply bubble squeak! We also loved the name because of it’s British connection, Bubble & Squeak is a very British tradition and the idea of Bubble Squeak is for Britain, by Britain, demonstrating best of British collaboration.

The design style needed to feel like a major UK brand. The whole concept behind Bubble Squeak was to make it feel like a big organisation in order to give car cleaners and customers alike, the confidence to get involved, spread the word and use the service frequently.
We designed a logotype that further enhanced the characteristics of each of the words with very rounded letterforms for bubble and sharper letterforms for squeak. To make the words look like they belonged together we customised both type styles from the same typeface.
The uniform was one of the key pieces for this identity and will be absolutely paramount in raising the credibility of each of the car cleaners. Knowing this we kept the logo simple enough so that it could be easily embroidered and reproduced on t-shirts and caps.
As part of the identity we also worked on a background photograph of foamy bubbles on the surface of soapy water and developed a campaign title ‘Have Bucket - Will Work’.
The Bubble Squeak identity already feels like the National brand it aspires to be. Bubble Squeak is communicating it’s cause well and attracting the right type of people to become car cleaners. Bubble Squeak has been able to secure sponsorship from many UK companies and even some major international brands. They have gained the confidence of the media with press coverage, column inches and radio slots throughout the nation and even have the potential of appearing on TV in the near future. Bubble Squeak is already compiling a database of customers that are signing up to have their cars cleaned as soon as there is a car cleaner in their area.

Bubble Squeak are still in the early days of their development, but their identity and branding is proving to be very effective and we couldn’t have hoped for better results than have been achieved so far!
